PDO Threads consist of disposable, single-use hypodermic needles preloaded with a PDO absorbable suture which is composed of polydioxanone (PDO). The PDO is a time-tested suture material used to perform cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery). It’s one of the safest materials to be implanted in the body. Your skin fully absorbs it within 4 to 6 months leaving a trail of collagen behind & won’t leave you with any scar tissue.   

There are three main types of PDO threads used:

• Mono threads (Monofilament, Smooth)
• Cog threads (Barbed)
• Screw threads (Twisted) 

Mono threads are smooth without barbs and are anchored to a point on the face or the scalp. They mainly tighten the skin and provide a small amount of lift. 

Cog threads have barbs which hook onto the skin to provide support and lift the sagging tissue. 

Screw threads have one or two intertwined threads around the needle and provide good volume restoration to sunken areas of the skin. 

Once introduced into the deeper layers of the skin, the threads produce 3 effects in the skin:

• Instant Skin Lifting through mechanical effects
• Cellular Renewel, through Collagen stimulation, and neovascularisation to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity
• Skin Tightening, by contracting fat tissue

A PDO Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure. That is why it is done under local anesthesia, and typically requires little downtime of about two to three days due to post-operative swelling or bruising. Other possible side effects are: puckering, skin dimpling, asymmetry, or infection.

Meshing & Lifting

A beautiful and healthy face has a "V-shape". With the aging of tissues and the action of gravity, this "V-shape" gets lost. The idea behind the Nova-Mesh and the Nova-Lift technique is to either create a scaffolding in order to support the tissues and keep them in the "V-shape", or where necessary, to delicately lift the tissues and reposition the skin to recreate the "V-shape" where it’s been lost.

Neck and Jaw

Although NOVATHREADS can be inserted / injected almost anywhere, one particular area that was missing a non-surgical procedure is the area of the Jaw & the Neck.

MINT PDO, as the name suggests, is a sterile, absorbable suture composed of polydioxanone. MINT PDO is a safe and effective thread that is used to pull and approximate soft tissues of the sagging skin to a desired position. MINT™ has received its 510(k) clearance from the FDA and is currently being used in 14 other countries worldwide. The procedure is simple and done through local anesthesia. Patients will experience minimal pain, minimal scarring, and a rapid recovery. 

MINT’s bi-directional and helically positioned barbs strongly anchor onto the soft tissue and then approximate it to the desired position. Dramatic lifting results from its high tensile property of USP size 1-0.

Unlike common threads that are produced by cutting technology, MINT PDO are produced by molded technology. Molded MINT PDO has helically positioned, unique barbs that are durable and maintain structural integrity. In comparison, common threads become blunt and curled after 2 weeks. 

Patients will see immediate results after the procedure that can last up to 1 year. Despite being relatively new to the US market, MINT has a stronger lifting power and better specification designs in comparison to other PDO threads.
