Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment in which a medical-grade scalpel is used to scrape across the surface of the skin to remove the vellus hairs on the face, also known as peach fuzz. It also removes the dead skin and stubborn makeup leaving the skin baby soft and glowing. This provides an effective and safe exfoliation treatment that promotes deeper product penetration, boosting the effects of skincare products while making the skin look and feel smoother. It also primes skin for a chemical peel thereby enhancing the overall effects of the peel. The treatment also works to remove facial hair that can trap dirt and oils.
Dermaplaning targets the 'peach fuzz' (the invisible, baby hairs that commonly crop up on cheeks and around the hair line). This hair is technically known as vellus hair and is distinctly different to the dark, thick terminal hair, which grows on our heads, underarms and pubic area. Another important point to make is that vellus hair doesn't grow back stubbly. Although it sounds scary, the process is totally safe and can be done every three to four weeks.
Here are nine reasons you should try dermaplaning — we promise, it doesn't hurt and it's totally worth it.
